CCSC's Response to COVID-19

Message from the Executive Director & How You Can Support CCSC

CCSC is experiencing difficulty obtaining groceries from its distributors and your food donations will keep the shelves stocked. If possible, drop a bag (or more) of groceries at either of our food pantries: 3230 Mercer St. (77027) or 6856 Bellaire (77074).

At Mercer St. you may drop off food Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

At our Bellaire St. location you may drop off food Mondays and Tuesdays (this site is closed Wednesdays) and Thursdays and Fridays 10 a.m.-1 p.m. CCSC’s Bellaire St. food pantry is located in the church’s Canterbury Hall on the east side of the church campus (the same side as KIPP Connect school). Go to the blue double doors of the building closest to the athletic field.

Here’s what will help the most:
Bags with handles for packing groceries (paper, reusable, plastic)
Hearty soups (with meat or beans)
Canned tuna
Canned chicken
Boxed dry cereal
Canned vegetables (all types)
Canned fruit (all types)
Cleaning wipes
Toilet paper
Toothbrushes (adult & Child)
Bar soap
Baby Wipes/Diapers (sizes 4, 5 and 6)

We do not know exactly how COVID-19 will impact our community members already in need, but this is what we are seeing:

  • Work hours and wages reduced and certain jobs completely eliminated.
  • School closings increasing the need for food in homes with children.
  • Those requiring medical care now in deeper financial crisis.

I thank you on behalf of CCSC and all the people walking through our doors. It is our hope and desire to remain open and in service to others today, tomorrow and in the weeks and months to come.

Michelle Shonbeck,
Executive Director, Christian Community Service Center
