Since 2000, CCSC has maintained a Community Garden on the grounds of a CCSC member church. Now located at the Gethsemane Campus of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, the CCSC Garden’s vegetables and fruits are tended to and harvested by a green-thumbed group of volunteers. (That produce is distributed between Emergency Services-Central and Emergency Services-Southwest sites, and distributed to our hungry neighbors.) This fresh produce is an excellent addition to our food packages and provides a unique nutritional benefit to clients.
Each year, the CCSC Garden produces 3,000 to 9,000 lbs. of green beans, lettuce, okra, eggplant, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, jalapenos, bell peppers, melons, figs, and more! The biggest months of production are usually May and June.
